 Sisyrinchium bermudiana was given its scientific name at a time when botanists wrongly believed it was confined to Bermuda. Turns out that the small, pale blue flowers were easily overlooked in other climates because they only open on bright, sunny, mid-summer days. The bermudiana can thrive in North America and Europe if conditions are favorable.

Hello, and welcome to my blog! I'm the Diana, behind "A BermuDiana Grows in Providence". I've come a long way from my home on No Name Lane in Bermuda... and yet some days it feels I've traveled nowhere at all. I left the island life behind in 2001 to attend university in Rhode Island. The Renaissance City stole a little piece of my heart and, after graduating with my BA in Africana Studies, I decided to make Providence my adopted home. Like the bermudiana, it turns out that I can grow and thrive on foreign soil.

Providence is a fantastic city for the amateur foodie. Talented local chefs, farmers markets, and an exciting food truck community are all thriving here. I'm food-obsessed, and feel lucky to be surrounded by such a variety of culinary delights. I love exploring this city, and our tiny state, with my camera and my sidekick, Paxil (my Yorkshire Terrier). I'm a bacon enthusiast and an occasional Weight Watcher. Whether experimenting with new recipes, shopping for fresh local produce, or spending an evening dining and drinking in the city, food inspires me on a daily basis. I aim to share that inspiration here with you.

Good friends and good food enrich my soul, and I'm blessed to be surrounded by both in Providence.
